The top 10 advantages of low-rent living - The Chief Happiness Officer Blog

The main 10 focal points of low-lease living - The Chief Happiness Officer Blog Perhaps the greatest danger to satisfaction at work is having too many fixed costs at home. When you?re totally reliant on bringing home a check (or two!) each and every month, you?re powerless. In the event that work ends up being insufferable you can?t basically up and leave and take three months without pay. Ive picked low-lease living for myself. From the outset it was through mishap instead of arranging yet now I could never live some other way. Peruse on to perceive how it has fulfilled me at work and throughout everyday life. A few years prior, my awesome sweetheart Patricia and I were chasing for another spot to live in Copenhagen. We were living in her little, 1-room condo and we truly yearned for more space, more rooms and a greater kitchen. Homes are getting outrageously costly in every single European capital including Copenhagen, so we experienced a procedure that is basic to numerous individuals chasing for another home: We began taking a gander at places inside our spending that we could without much of a stretch manage. In any case, those spots werent truly cool so we began taking a gander at an ever increasing number of costly places Untill marry arrived at our edge of agony and were just considering the most costly places we could possibly bear We really submitted offers on two extraordinary (costly) homes and barely missed out for each situation to different bidders. In those days we were crushed we truly had our psyches set on those two spots. Today were unbelievably mitigated that it never came through. Were all the while living in Patricias condo which costs us close to nothing and thinking back I can perceive the amount of a bit of leeway that has been for the two of us. Clearly this applies not exclusively to your home loan or lease yet to every fixed cost. Lease/contract simply happens to be the biggest fixed cost the vast majority of us have. Leaving heaps of breathing room in my economy has presented to me some immense favorable circumstances: 1: Freedom to leave an awful employment At the point when a vocation doesnt fulfill me, I can stop without agonizing over the cash. Ive done it once, Patricia twice. It isn't so much that weve quit at the clench hand indication of difficulty we have consistently attempted to make it work. Yet, when weve understood that a specific activity wasnt going to satisfy us, weve had the opportunity to state sayonara without first getting another line of work. 2: Freedom to take a risk In the startup Ive been running the previous three years Ive had the option to take a few risks and spotlight more on building a cheerful, manageable business than on bringing home a major check each month. It has permitted the business to develop naturally which has paid off colossally since the business is ready for action. 3: Freedom to do what I appreciate I can choose to do stuff that allows me to learn, meet fascinating individuals or plain have a fabulous time yet may not bring in any cash at this very moment. This is an enormous shelter to me and my business over the long haul since it implies that Im continually creating and learning. 4: Freedom to do whats right I can do whats right as opposed to what gets me more cash-flow. I can choose to work for nothing for an organization that actually needs me, yet cant bear the cost of me. I can part with stuff in the event that I think individuals need it. I can set a high moral norm and not have to stress over trading off it for benefit. 5: Freedom to work less hours Theres no weight on me to work 50, 60 or 80 hours per week. I can in the event that I need to and some of the time I do and if Id rather work 20 hours multi week I can do that. Ive for the last time left The Cult of Overwork. 6: Freedom to disapprove of certain clients A few clients just arent directly for your business. The science isn't right, their requirements dont coordinate your answers or theyre just a lot of difficulty. I have the opportunity to disapprove of certain clients and yes to the best clients. The entirety of the above truly boils down to transient versus long haul arranging. Monetary opportunity lets you put resources into your future by doing things since get less cash-flow, yet will in the end make you more. 7: Peace of brain I invest very nearly zero time and vitality stressing over cash its equitable not an issue. I likewise dont need to stress whether the financing costs go up or down a large portion of a point. Or then again whether there truly is a lodging air pocket and house costs are going to begin falling. That is a colossal help and gives me additional time and vitality for business and life. 8: Focus on the main thing When Im not worried about a greater home, greater vehicle or greater TV I center around the main thing. My better half, family, companions, business, composing, organizing, getting the hang of, perusing, and so forth I burn through no time staying aware of the Joneses. 9: Simple living Living in a little appartment has encouraged us to claim just the things we truly need. Weve been getting great at discarding or giving garments, cloths, kitchenware, furniture, knickknacks and so on that we dont use normally. What's more, this is an immense help since you can shape a colossal connection to the things you own and paring them down to just the things you truly need encourages you to relinquish that. Theres a psychological alleviation and opportunity that originates from that. Less stuff in your home = less stuff at the forefront of your thoughts. 10: More cash for the sake of entertainment stuff At the point when less cash goes into the stuff I own, theres more cash for the stuff I do. Like snowboarding, meetings, voyaging and that's only the tip of the iceberg. 3 Ways to Move from an Executive to C-Level Role

3 Ways to Move from an Executive to C-Level Role The higher level the job, the more risk a company assumes. At this point the job is less about generic qualifications and more about your people skills and leadership qualities. This terrain can be tricky because its more subjective. However, by implementing some of our tips youll better your chances of moving from an executive to C-level role within the organization. Make sure you can work with different departments. In order to be a top executive of an organization its important that you learn to work with different departments. As a C-level exec you would no longer responsible for just your sector, now youd be the one creating strategies that affect the company as a whole. Thats why its imperative that you learn how the different departments work cohesively. Youll also want to beef up your skills in different areas. For example, if youre more involved in the finance sector consider learning how the sales and marketing team works. Furthermore, youll want to learn how one affects the other and vice versa. Lastly, build rapport with managers from different departments. Theyll be able to put in a good word for you and show how youve made an effort to understand the different aspects of the company. Develop leadership qualities. Leadership qualities are what truly separate executives from the c-level role. Its easy to manage people, however its not easy to lead people. Leadership takes vision. It also takes the ability to move a big group of people toward that vision. As such its your job to start taking more responsibility. Note, this doesnt mean simply executing a campaign strategy that was handed to you for your particular department. This may mean taking initiative on things that would require to work with departments across the board as well as create the strategy yourself. The tricky part is you may not always be able to this within the role of your job, in fact it will probably require looking outside of your job. For example, volunteer to spearhead the companys annual corporate run. Or, get involved with any big initiatives that require raising money for a charity the company is affiliated with. These two examples may not seem relevant but consider this: both scenarios require you to work with a massive group of people from all departments. Both scenarios also require you to raise money. These are two skills that would be essential at the C-Level and your current executive role may not give you the flexibility to enhance those skills within the job. As an added bonus, current C-level execs typically have to be involved in some way for these kinds of events, even if its just giving a keynote at the charity. This would increase your exposure to them which brings me to my next point. Build a relationship with top managers. When youre vying for a C-Level job your chances of getting it may rely more on how you and the CEO get along rather than qualifications. If youve made it this far youre obviously qualified, as such what a company is more concerned with is whether or not you can work with the people on top. According to The Ladders, its almost as if you practically have to be sponsored by a top executive to be promoted at this level. This is much more subjective and has a lot to do with personality, reputation and rapport. As such it becomes your job to build a relationship with top managers. Find ways to get to know them and increase your exposure to them. Be well! Lisa

So you have to show:Youve done your exploration and know something about themYou recognize what youre hoping to do next in your profession, and their organization appears to fit thatSo ensure those two focuses are in your introductory letters or messages when you send your resume.Pro tip: This is VERY significant while getting ready for prospective employee meetings as well. Continuously have the option to clarify what youre searching for and why you went after their position. If not, you most likely wont get hired. Also try to tailor your resume for each activity. This will increase the chances that you hear back, generally by 3-5x.If you follow these means, do your exploration and dont surge, this strategy is perhaps the most ideal approaches to get a new line of work online.Method #3: Rapid-Fire LinkedIn Job Search MethodWhile technique #2 above requires cautious research, and specifically picking organizations to apply to, this technique works by inclining up the quantity of utilizations you send out. This is one of my undisputed top choices and has been working very well for work searchers for as long as two years. Attempt to apply to 25-35 organizations into equal parts a day). After this, put in a couple of days on Method #2, focusing on explicit organizations youd like to work for.Going forward, continue parting your time between techniques 2 and 3, and make sure to utilize your system at whatever point conceivable. Behold The Power of a Thank You Note

View The Power of a Card to say thanks Growing up, my mom constrained me to write customized cards to say thanks for each blessing I at any point got… and for each significant life achievement. Gigantic. Torment. Be that as it may, as I got more seasoned, I understood a card to say thanks was an approach to state much appreciated, yet an approach to show gratefulness and regard for somebody who made a special effort to accomplish something pleasant for you. Realizing that cards to say thanks are an incredible method to show your gratefulness, is there any good reason why you wouldn't use them in your expert life also? Quick forward a couple of years to when I began meeting for entry level positions in school. My teachers prompted me to catch up each meeting with a customized card to say thanks. Ugh. Not once more. As a bratty, excessively worried about get-togethers understudy, I hesitantly thought of them. These individuals get a huge amount of mail every day â€" they'll can't be sure whether I caught up with a card to say thanks or not. Boy was I wrong! Since I am perched on the opposite side of the table and meeting assistants for my firm, I comprehend why a card to say thanks can be so significant for your vocation: At the point when an organization is hoping to fill a vacant position, a short note can separate you from others, driving your questioner to return and reconsider your meeting. While email expressions of gratitude are decent, setting aside the effort to by and by compose a note and snail mail it shows excitement and duty. Showing appreciation regard is an impression of the sort of specialist you'll be; one who puts forth an attempt to coexist with others and to fit in with the way of life of the organization. This might be an easy decision for you, however not every person does it. Setting aside the effort to compose a short, customized note can have a significant effect. Furthermore, you shouldn't constrain cards to say thanks to post-meet subsequent meet-ups. My director as of late offered me some extraordinary guidance: You ought to consistently compose a transcribed note in the wake of getting an advancement, raise or reward. The idea never entered my thoughts at that point, yet I believe it's an extraordinary guideline for effective living. After I got my year's end reward, I composed cards to say thanks to each accomplice of my firm. The following day, I was told by one of them, I truly valued your note. Your mom is the one in particular who raised you right. Shop at CVS or your nearby market and you will discover adorable, reasonable packs of thank you notes. Think of it as simply one more approach to Style Your Life!

Is the Cover Letter Dead A Recruiter Weighs in - Your Career Intel

Is the Cover Letter Dead A Recruiter Weighs in - Your Career Intel In addition to the fact that it is a lot of alive, an elegantly composed introductory letter may make the way for a meeting for your fantasy work. As an official spotter, I'm regularly gotten some information about resumes, yet the introductory letter itself has an altogether different capacity and incentive for work searchers. In the event that you've been asking yourself, Should I compose an introductory letter? my answer is a reverberating YES. All things considered, how you manufacture and convey your introductory letter is indispensable to its helpfulness and to your prosperity. Imagine a scenario in which my introductory letter peruses a great deal like my resume. Time and again introductory letters are repetitions of a resume, which is an issue. On the off chance that your introductory letter is excessively long and point by point, a forthcoming boss won't trouble perusing your resume. The introductory letter is valuable just in the event that it gives a prologue to an individual. It's your opportunity to pass on your comprehension of the organization's needs and to assemble expectation about you as a competitor. What do I remember for my introductory letter? Attempt to provoke a potential business' interest by ceasing from responding to each address however giving enough data to empower further intrigue. The introductory letter ought to incorporate a presentation of yourself, several key focuses that separate you from your companions, and a solicitation for a meeting. How significant is an introductory letter? Contrasted with the resume's attention on abilities and specialized understanding, the introductory letter offers a chance to pass on something of your character. For some businesses, the attack of an up-and-comer into the work environment culture can be a higher priority than the specific range of abilities, as long as the individual meets work capabilities and has a decent work history. To what extent should my introductory letter be? More words are not really better. You need to catch individuals' eyeâ€"not hazard losing it by requesting that they read a long letter. While the real length may shift as indicated by the range of your profession or experience, I suggest focusing on half of a page and close to 66% of a page (8-15 sentences). The introductory letter ought to be succinct and briefâ€"also linguistically rightâ€"or it will hurt your nomination. Since the vast majority think they compose well, they may not give as much consideration as they ought to the drafting procedure. Similarly as it's acceptable to have a few people survey your resume before sending it out, you ought to apply the equivalent thorough audit to your introductory letter. Syntactic blunders, longwindedness, and by and large poor sythesis will be an impediment, not an assistance, to your activity possibilities. Who will peruse my introductory letter? You may never realize who will see it. Regardless of whether you are applying to a huge organization with a HR office that screens work candidates, you ought to consistently assume that your introductory letter may be sent to a CFO, Vice President or Senior-level individual. So you have to equip your letter to both HR and the individual creation the recruiting choice. As such, ensure your introductory letter is suitable for every single target group, don't make it excessively specialized, and decide in favor of convention. Consider the possibility that I don't need an introductory letter. Regardless of whether you are drawing in an enrollment specialist or utilizing an outsider in your pursuit of employment that may manage resumes, an introductory letter is advantageous for setting you up for additional means in your pursuit of employment process. What's more, in situations where you are utilizing an email as your lone prologue to your resume, ensure your email is as cleaned as an introductory letter would beâ€"it can have a significant effect. So are introductory letters significant? In light of my experience working with competitors and customers the nation over, solid introductory letters are not just significant, they are a basic piece in building your compelling and effective bid. What are your accepted procedures with respect to composing introductory letters? If you don't mind contribute your thoughts.

Alexandra Levits Water Cooler Wisdom 4 Ways to Encourage Intrapreneurship

Alexandra Levit's Water Cooler Wisdom 4 Ways to Encourage Intrapreneurship I’ve long been a fan of intrapreneurship, or the practice of entrepreneurial strategies within the context of, and leveraging the resources of, an established organization. I wanted to come up with some good intrepreneurship programs pioneered by HR for this piece, but it was more difficult than I expected. Beyond the open allocation topic, which we discussed earlier this year and which is mostly limited to the startup community, a Google search revealed very little. I’m realizing that while intrapreneurship may be growing in popularity, the majority of initiatives have nothing whatsoever to do with HR. Forbes contributor Adam Hartung shared a story about a consulting meeting he had with a company that makes nails and screws and was getting clobbered by adhesive manufacturers in Asia. “The company had become myopic, and did not even realize it. The people were so much alike that they could finish each other’s sentences,” Hartung related. “The HR head was very proud of his ability to keep the company so harmonious.” “Only, it was about to go bankrupt. Because it wasn’t diverse at all, the company couldn’t see see beyond its locked-in business model. And there sure wasn’t anyone who would rock the boat by admitting competitors were outflanking them, or bringing up wild ideas for new markets or products.” Hartung’s main point was that some HR best practices actually kill innovation â€" both inside and outside the department. HR professionals who want to be perceived as strategic contributors must adapt to change and put forth ideas that will help their businesses remain competitive. To that end, here are four ways to foster intrapreneurship in your organization. Hire Different Often, HR is the gatekeeper for ensuring that recruits fit within the established culture of the organization. But this often means that diversity is sacrificed and we bring in employees like ourselves, people with the same experiences and perspectives. So, if you’re a brick and mortar electronics behemoth based in the Midwest, hire a startup queen from one of the coasts who has no desire to conform. It’ll be scary, but I guarantee you’ll see a difference. Listen to Your Junior People Younger professionals, or members of the millennial generation, routinely look for the most efficient and effective way of doing something rather than adhering blindly to the status quo. Keep an open door and an open mind when your employees share their ideas for transforming the HR function. For the rest of the post, head on over to the SilkRoad blog.

Workplace Leadership Challenging Accepted Dynamics

Workplace Leadership Challenging Accepted Dynamics Theres a lot of myths about how to be the best in the workplace. To be a great leader, you have to show everyone whos boss. The only way for your employees to learn is to stop hand-holding. Working longer hours means youre working harder than everyone else. Workplace leadership begins with you, no matter where you fall within the company heirarchy. You can institute a positive attitude, enhance workplace communication, and use organization as a tool to stay ahead of the game. Often its not about being the most dominant, or having a position at the top of the pecking order, its about mentoring and guidance. While allowing your employees to work through problems on their own may be conducive to their comprehension of the process, throwing them into the deep end with no resources and no guidance will not cultivate long-term retention of knowledge or overall comprehension of their role. Instead of being afraid that youre hand-holding, ask questions to gauge comprehension and knowledge of the people you are teaching. Provide the facts that they need in order to achieve the task at hand, and be available to answer inquiries as they move along in the process. Be present. One of the greatest opportunities for you to be the jumping-off point for change in your office lies in how you treat others. One of the most disappointing methods used in the workplace, often mistaken for leadership, is pressure through intimidation. This is just a fancy way of saying office bullying. While forcing people to meet deadlines or assist on projects through a show of force and knowledge is usually effective, it is miserable for all of those involved. Asserting power over another employee is the wrong way to go about it, and theres many alternative methods that are more appealing and that simulateously cultivate team building. While it is necessary to be persistent in order to meet your deadlines, try not to be demanding and do your best to give others enough time to work. With that approach, no-one is feeling unnecessary pressure. If you think you may be experiencing workplace bullying, subtle or obvious, check out this article for more information on how to identify and combat it. Burnout prevention starts with you. Work smarter to more effectively minimize overworking. It is not uncommon to see people who are peers or senior members of your team working long hours and answering work emails late into the night. You know the type- they come in looking exhausted every single morning, are generally grumpy, and never seem to have enough hours in the day to complete all that is on their to-do list. The reality is that many people need a lesson in time management, and you can do your best to combat burn out by   efficiently managing your time. It is inevitable that we will have to put in long hours at some point in our careers, but we do have a say in how we cope. If your work email is linked to your cell phone, commit to only looking at it and responding within a certain time frame outside of normal working hours. For some quick tips on how to cope with too much on your plate, both inside of and outside of the workplace, read this piece on how to get it done. No matter your role or experience level within your company,   you can play a major role in the institution of change.
